The grueling climb up to Jones Pass Colorado (12,454'). With such a heavy snowfall in 2019 I made use of all the alternate routes of the Continental Divide Trail. This climb was part of the Silverthorne Alternate. Once atop the ridge the path down was blocked by a massive cornice and visibility was soon obscured by a thick fog. Continuing north along the ridge was little better, a perilous snow covered knifes edge disappearing into a white mist. Luckily a break in the clouds allowed for enough visibility to make a glissade/bushwack escape down to the valley below leading to Berthoud Pass and the ski town of Winter Park.
